is a common electronic conference system and a pedagogical tool for Swedish liberal adult education, i.e. for folk high schools and study associations. It functions as a meeting place, an information site, a conference hall and a study centre.

Folk high schools and study associations, and the individual users, are using the net for communication and cooperation within the Swedish Liberal Adult Education. The net is also used as a platform for internal networks (intranet) for schools and associations and as a pedagogical tool, for example to arrange different kinds of distance study programs.

If you have got your personal user-ID and a password you can log in with your web browser here: www.study.folkbildning.net/login or click on the link "Log in" to the left (third from the bottom).

In this way you can always connect to the Folkbildning Net, no matter where you are in the world – as long you have access to a computer and to Internet.

If you are using PC/Windows together with Microsoft Explorer web browser, at least version 5, then you can download and install a special FirstClass-plugin into your Explorer. Then Explorer will behave almost like FirstClass.

Use the link to the left, "FC Explorer-plugin" (second from the bottom). The first time the plugin will get installed and after that you click on that link whenever you want to log in to the Liberal Adult Education Net.

Note that this plugin will only function with PC/Windows together with Microsoft Explorer (it does not work on Macintosh computers or with other web browsers).

After you have started the installation the plugin will download to your computer; that will take approximately 8 minutes if you are using an ordinare modem connection to Internet. Then you vill get this warning:

Click OK. Then you just have to fill in your user-ID och pass word and log in..

When you are using this plugin there is one difference comparing to the ordinary FirstClass: You will find the different menues when you click on the left icon in the tool field:

But it is more convenient – and more fun! – to use the free program "FirstClass Client". You can download and install "FirstClass Client" on your own computer from: www.firstclass.com/clientdownloads/IntlClients/

Note that you must have permission to install applications on your computer!

Here you first choose your prefered language, then what kind of computer you have (Mac or Windows) and finally you just follow the instructions.

After you have installed FirstClass you must tell it which FirstClass server to connect to. Remember that you have to be connected to Internet!

1. When you have started FirstClass, you will get a small window (Login) on your monitor.

2. Click in the field at Address (at the top of the window) and type: fc.folkbildning.net

4. Click on Save. Now those informations are saved in your FirstClass and you do not have to repeat it next time.

5. Now you fill in the password you have got in the field at Password.

6. Finally you click on Login. After one or a few seconds you should see your own private "desktop" on Folkbildning Net (Folkbildningsnätet).
